We had a great time kayaking with Discovery, the staff and guides were amazing. We saw the most wonderful views and eagles, seals, and orcas. Everything was done safely and respectively. Thanks Discovery!

Well it was a great day to be out in the Strait of Juan de Fuca yesterday. I went out with a good friend of mine who is the owner and captain of Western Prince Cruises (http://www.orcawhalewatch.com). He has a small group of people to take out and I heard reports of Humpbacks so I was ready to go. It was a nice cruise with light chop over the Canadian side where we passed Victoria Harbor and caught up with a group of 6 Humpbacks. We watched them feed and there were thousands of birds in the area feeding as well. With the added bonus of Stellar Sea Lions also feeding in the area, we got some great looks at those guys. While we were hanging with the Humps we hear there area couple of Transient Orcas in the area. So we head out to take a quick look. There were only two and they were making long dives, we were in light swell, so it was hard to keep track of them. Soon it was time to head back to San Juan Island. On our way we encountered a very active group of Dalls Porpoise. They came over to run the bow of the boat and when we shut the engines down they started speed swimming all around us. It was a great trip, and it goes to show that even though it is late in the season you can still charter a wildlife cruise and see tons of cools things in just a few hours.
Well the picture says it all. Beautiful San Juan Island Sunset Sea Kayaking Trip
This gets everyone excited, when an Orca does a surprise close pass! Wish I could say I see this all the time. But it is a treat for us guides as well, not every trip do we get such a great pass.
Since the blog was down for the better part of the server and we now have it back and running. I wanted to add some pictures taken by us or our clients on some of the trips from this summer. Click on the images to enlarge them. I will continue to add pictures as I run across some good ones from this season.
Sunday Sept 30 we woke to the sound of a great wind storm moving in. We took off to the beach and ran into a couple if buddies and we had the same thing on out minds, TIME TO PLAY! So we called more folks to come out and play and set a time. We geared up and hit Jackson Beach where we had a great Southeast wind. This creates some nice confused waves in the bay. We paddled out and around Dinner Island and surfed out way back in. After that we just did not get enough so we headed out to South Beach to see what the what was doing there. It was bigger and the wind was gaining some speed. We had a rough time getting off the beach, but even being trashed and thrown by some waves is a great time. I did get some pics of my buddy Tom as he made his way off shore.
We were lucky to add a few new members to the Discovery team this summer. Michelle is a seasoned kayak guide and has come on board to help out with multi-day expedition style kayak tours. Magda is another new member this season. She comes with years of whitewater experience and is moving into the sea kayak world. Ricarda is also a new member, she is new to kayaking and works hard everyday to improve her skills. She has a true nature for the water and we are happy to have her on staff.
