This kayak tour was specifically designed for those who want to kayak in prime killer whale territory,Sea Lion but do not want to spent all day kayaking.  The Whales and Wildlife Kayak Tour | Half Day, travels the same region as the Full Day Kayak Trip.  So you have the same opportunity to view Seals, Porpoise, Bald Eagles and lots of beautiful sea birds that are here to forage the rich waters of the Haro Strait. Not to mention the famed Southern Resident Killer Whales.

The Half Day Kayak Tour has become popular among those that have plans to catch a Whale Watch Boat Tour, head out for a bike ride or looking to go for a hike in one our beautiful National Historic Parks.

The 9:00am departure is wonderful because there are very few kayakers or motor boaters on the water at this time.  The morning hours have a sense of calm and more shy animals such as the river otter can be found foraging along the shoreline.  This one of the best tours to avoid the crowds during the summer months.

The 1:30pm departure is designed to leave after all the full day tour have moved on.  This allows

us to paddle the warm part of the day and separate us from the other kayak groups.  Though there are more kayaks and boats on the water compared to the 9:00am tour. We start the day with minimal crowds.

Both of the departure times have as good of chance as the other for encountering Orca Whales. The time we are on the water is spent paddling in a region know for the best killer whale encounters in the lower 48.  The Southern Resident Killer Whales are commonly found traveling near shore along our selected west side route.  The only other tour that really offers you a better chance of seeing whales is our classic Full Day Kayak Tour, only because you are on the water for more time.

Discovery will provide you with paddle tops and bottoms.  This will help keep you dry while enjoying your day.  One dry bag per person will be provided as well.  You can keep you camera or other items safely stowed here.  Our quality fiberglass kayaks have dry storage compartments that can be use to store your lunch for the day.

What do you need to bring?

Snack, we will be in the water the entire time. So having a snack along is not a bad idea. Don’t for get a BOTTLE OF WATER.

It is nice if you have a pair of shoes you do not mind getting wet.  There are times depending on the tide that you may have to step into the water to get in the kayaks.

Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat and a Camera are all highly recommended.

If you forget any of the items not to worry.  Discovery Sea Kayaks is also a fully stocked outdoor retail shop.  We can fit you with any items you may have left behind.

The above chart outlines the area we travel and the region that has been designated as habitat for Southern Resident Killer Whales.
