Discovery Sea Kayaks Sunset Tour has the combination you are looking for.  Departing from the west side of San Juan Island you are not only in the best place to see killer whales.  But you are in the best spot on the island to see the sunset.  With views of Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains it is truly picturesque.

Discovery’s sunset tour is the latest on the water.  When most companies are heading to the beach, we actually stay on the water and watch the sun set.

The travel route along the Haro Strait, the most common travel route of the Southern Resident Killer Whales, takes us down to the Lime Kiln Lighthouse.  A historic landmark and currently know for being the best place to see Orca Whales from land.  As we travel opportunities to see Bald Eagles, Seals, Porpoise and River Otters are good. Plus there are a host of sea birds that forage the region.

The shoreline glows as the sun sets and rays of orange and red take over the landscape. There is little boat traffic at this hour. So we get the the water tour ourselves.  Be prepared to be out until the sun has set.  By the time we return to town there will be little or no options for dinner. So plan ahead for you dinner needs.

Discovery will provide you with paddle tops and bottoms. This will help keep you dry while enjoying your day.  One dry bag per person will be provided as well.  You can keep you camera or other items safely stowed here.  Our quality fiberglass kayaks have dry storage compartments that can be use to store your lunch for the day.

What do you need to bring?

Snack, we do recommend a small snack while you are on the water.  Don’t for get a BOTTLE OF WATER.

It is nice if you have a pair of shoes you do not mind getting wet.  There are times depending on the tide that you may have to step into the water to get in the kayaks.

Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat and a Camera are all highly recommended.

If you forget any of the items not to worry.  Discovery Sea Kayaks is also a fully stocked outdoor retail shop.  We can fit you with any items you may have left behind.
