Equipment Rentals

At Discovery Sea Kayaks we rent only the highest quality equipment. We use double kayaks produced by Boreal Design. We also have singles available for experienced paddlers. All accessories are of the highest quality and include: spray skirts, personal flotation device, paddle, spare paddle, paddle float, bilge pump, dry bag. Wet-suits are also available for your safety and comfort and of course we are glad to discuss routes and campsites for your adventure.

Do You Have The Experience We Look For To Rent A Kayak?

The San Juan Islands can be a beautiful calm place to paddle. But we also have unpredictable winds and strong currents that can change your kayak experience in to a survival situation. Therefore we have strict requirements set for those looking to rent a double or single kayak.

THE FOLLOWING LIST DETAILS WHAT WE DO NOT CONSIDER EXPERIENCE.

That you have paddled sit-on-top kayaks at a resort vacation spot.

That you have read books on kayak rescues, but never practiced the rescues.

That you have kayaked but never capsized so you feel you will not ever capsize.

THE FOLLOWING LIST DETAILS WE CONSIDER EXPERIENCE.

You have taken classes with a qualified instructor

You have practiced and are proficient with self and assisted rescues.

That you have an understanding of wind, weather and currents.

For single kayaks you MUST have a roll!

If you do not fit all the requirements we will refuse rental. Please be certain of your experience before booking a rental!
